A New Jersey native, Karl Coutinho, MD completed his undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics at New York University. In 2010 he received his medical doctorate from New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Coutinho completed his internship in General Surgery, and residency in Urology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. His military experience compelled him to complete a fellowship in genitourinary trauma and reconstruction at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and University Hospitals in Cleveland. Dr. Coutinho received additional training in genitourinary prosthetics and reconstruction through courses at Perito Urology in Miami, and as a visiting fellow at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute in Pune, India.
Dr. Coutinho has served in the military since 2003, first as an Infantry officer and now a Medical officer. He is currently a Captain in the New Jersey Army National Guard.
Dr. Coutinho has numerous publications and presentations at national conferences in the fields of urologic reconstruction, pediatric urology, kidney transplant, military medicine, and genitourinary prosthetics. His areas of expertise include the placement of inflatable penile implants, urethral stricture disease, artificial urinary sphincter placement, advanced treatments of kidney and bladder stones, voiding dysfunction, BPH, robotic surgery, prostate cancer, and genitourinary reconstruction.
